We are hosting a two-hour Primary Series workshop suitable for current Ashtanga yoga practitioners and any one with the intention to learn more about the practice. In Ashtanga yoga, postures are grouped into sequences that students learn gradually. These sequences are commonly referred to as series, and there are six series in the Ashtanga yoga system: Primary, Intermediate, and Advanced (A, B, C, and D). When beginning to learn asanas in Ashtanga yoga, the student spends a certain amount of time gradually learning and progressing through the Primary series. Once completed and mastered, the student then moves on to learning Intermediate series, and so on...
Primary series does not mean that it is an easy sequence! Some of the postures are challenging and require a great balance of strength and flexibility. This workshop will explore the Primary series of Ashtanga yoga and address all aspects of the practice. We will:
- Break down key postures
- Learn benefits of the practice
- Observe basic breath work (introduction to pranayama)
- Experiment with Vinyasa (jump-backs and jump-throughs) and learn to float
- Discuss how practice impacts our lives and how our lifestyles can have an effect on our practice
